A repair estimate from the customer’s photos, and an appraiser only where one is needed

We build this system to order for auto insurers. The customer photographs the car in the insurer’s app, AI finds the damaged parts and proposes to replace, repair or paint each one, and ordinary software prices the parts and labor from the catalogs. An adjuster approves the estimate, and an appraiser goes out only when the photos cannot settle it

Who works with it

Claims adjuster

The insurer’s employee who settles a claim and approves the payment

Gets an estimate with the damaged parts marked and the repair priced, approves it, and decides each line where a repair shop’s estimate differs

Appraiser

The insurer’s expert who inspects a damaged car

Goes out only to cars the photos cannot settle: damage that may be hidden, or photos AI cannot read. Starts from the estimate already made

Head of claims

Runs the claims department

Sets which claims always get an inspection and how a repair shop’s estimate is compared. Sees where each claim went and why

Software, AI and a person

Who does which part of the work

Software and AI assess every claim from its photos. A person approves every estimate

Rule

Ordinary software

Monotonous work with clear rules

  • Takes each new claim from the claims system, with the photos and the car’s VIN
  • Finds the OEM parts for this exact car by its VIN
  • Prices the parts from the catalog and the labor from the repair times and rates
  • Compares each line of a repair shop’s estimate with the estimate from the photos
  • Writes the estimate and the route back to the claims system
AI

AI: understand, weigh and choose

The small decisions on every claim

  • Checks that the photos show the car from every side, and asks for a new photo when one is missing or too dark
  • Finds the damaged parts and what is wrong with each: a dent, a scratch, a crack
  • Proposes to replace, repair or paint each damaged part
  • Reads the repair shop’s estimate when one is sent
  • Chooses whether the photos are enough or an appraiser has to see the car
a person decides

A person

Every approval and every inspection

  • The adjuster approves every estimate
  • The adjuster decides each line where a repair shop’s estimate differs
  • An appraiser inspects cars with possible hidden damage or unreadable photos
  • The head of claims sets which claims always get an inspection
  • Only a person approves a payment
How a project starts

Four stages. After each one, you decide whether to go on

First on your archived claims, then on new ones

  1. Usually firstDiscovery and specification
    In
How claims are assessed today, the photos and estimates you keep and the programs you use
    You get
A written specification: what the system assesses first, what data it needs, what it will cost and in what order. The document is yours whether or not we build it
  2. ThenTest on archived claims
    In
Settled auto claims with their photos and the final estimates
    You get
Estimates from the photos next to what your appraisers wrote at the time
  3. ThenPilot on new claims
    In
New claims from one region you choose
    You get
An estimate and a route for each claim. An appraiser still checks each one while the rules are being set
  4. When you decideRollout
    In
    The regions you choose
    You get
Every new auto claim there is assessed from its photos. Your team changes the rules
Six questions we ask first
  1. How many auto claims do you handle a month? We plan the system and the pilot around it
  2. How do customers send photos today? The app’s photo steps start from what customers already do
  3. Do you keep past estimates with their photos? The test on archived claims compares the new estimates with them
  4. Which parts catalog and repair times do your appraisers use? The system prices the repair from the same sources
  5. Where do your appraisers inspect cars? The pilot runs in one region first
  6. Which software do you manage claims in: a claims system, a CRM or an ERP? The pilot connects to it, and the estimate and the route are written back there
